Comments: A Sodding Potato Masher

That reminds me of how much I loathe UPS and anyone who sends me packages through them. I do not have a buzzer on my apartment, so if I'm home I might hear them knock outside but not likely. I usually have to go pick them up and they seem to ignore hold requests put in from the website and don't call back when they are supposed to. Then I confirm that it's being held, go to pick it up 10 miles away and half the time they can't FIND IT on the truck and I have to go back the next day.

You should teach a course on controlled ranting. You convey the essence of a real over-the-top rant without actually going over the falls.

I'm thinking of using your last paragraph as a tag line. Priceless.

An important question to remember: "Would you please put me through to your supervisor?"
(And it works better if the phonerous pain has given a name at the start of the conversation. Use the name to make sure they know they are identifiable.)

And if they refuse, then the words "ombudsman" and "investigation" may cause the operator to squirm a little, even if you can't be bothered following up on it.

Say "ombudsman" in the US and the person on the line might say "gesundheit." We don't use such big words.

Ah, you know it might not be the Canada Post that caused the problem. My experience with EBAY is that they are always trying to rip people off, and the sellers on EBAY are very sloppy about how they send things. EBAY is a site for gamblers. I bought one of those Italian espresso makers from them and it was a piece of shit that turned black under flame. Another time they refused to send me an SD memory with a digital camera, even thoough the site clearly indicated it was included in the box. After that I no longer use EBAY. THey probably mislabeled your package too.

"You're effing kidding me."

"Don't swear at me. I don't have to listen to you swear at me."

"I said 'effing.'"

"That's swearing."

"The fuck it is." I hung up.

hahaha I love that :)

Now you've got me interested in Scottish slang. After watching The Rat Catcher a few times, and I'm thinking of watching it again if it's still in the library, I'm now thinking to buy a book on Glasgow Patter. Too bad one of the most accesible copies is on EBAy: http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Patter-Another-Blast-Michael-Munro-p-b-1988_W0QQitemZ8413516135QQihZ021QQcategoryZ1113QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
