Departmental Reports: May 9. (Really May 9, This Time!)

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PAINFUL BANALITY

All day yesterday, I thought it was the ninth. I got up, had breakfast, and carried on through till dinner, all the while thinking it was the ninth. A whole crop of Notepad files got mislabeled. There was chase_scene_2006_05_09.txt, and notes_week_May9-May15.txt. I think there was a limericks_May_9.txt, as well. A lot of mistakes were made. The confusion will, as that actor said in Gladiator, echo in eternity. I'll be finding artifacts of that slipped day for years to come. I won't even know I'm finding them. What, after all, differentiates limericks_May_9 from limericks_December_3, when you get right down to it?

It's driving me bonkers, but I can't be arsed doing anything about it.

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LIMERICKS THAT AREN'T ALL THAT FUNNY

I'm slightly reluctant to dine:
There's something amiss with this wine.
But some prophylaxis
For anaphylaxis
Should quash my objections just fine.

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF NOT HAVING ANYTHING BETTER TO DO WITH ONE'S TIME

I've got an article on motion photography on utata.org today. Be advised: this is decidedly not a technical article. You could fit what I know about motion photography on your little toenail.

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF BOOKS FOR THE BOGS, LITERATURE FOR THE LOO, ET CETERA

I'm up to eight thousand words of novel, now (which means I've essentially got a short story with no ending.) It's got some nice lines, and some awkward transitions. I'm pants with getting from scene to scene. Maybe I've put in too many characters. I keep forgetting everyone's names (which is especially sad, when you consider the fact that I've nicked most of the names from people I know. I've got an Uncle Arthur, for instance, and the FedEx man is Mr. Goldman. That makes Arthur Goldman. Then, there's Jim Cohen: Uncle Jim plus Leonard Cohen. I don't know Leonard Cohen, but he was on the telly the other night.)

I think I might be making a mess.

Then again, when am I not making a mess? I think I enjoy making a mess. I think I'm having fun.

FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF "WOO! CAMERA! HI!" AND "LOOK AT MY RAT!"

Me, Rat B, the end of the week (#2)
It's so far after Labour Day, it's come all the way back to before.
